Orlando Bloom admits his relationship with longtime fiancée Katy Perry takes work.
“We’re in two very different pools,” the actor told Flaunt magazine in a cover story published Wednesday. “Her pool is not a pool that I necessarily understand, and I think my pool is not a pool that she necessarily understands. Sometimes things are really, really, really challenging.”
He continued, “I won’t lie. We definitely battle with our emotions and creativity, [but] I think we’re both aware of how blessed we are to have uniquely connected in the way that we did at the time that we did, and there’s definitely never a dull moment.”
Bloom, 46, shared that one of the biggest hardships is navigating being long-distance with the pop star, 38, since they both have demanding work schedules.
Their relationship hasn’t been without its ups and downs. The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star and Perry started dating in January 2016, but they announced via their reps in March 2017 that they were “taking a respectful, loving space at this time.”
The “American Idol” judge later revealed that she was nearly suicidal when they split.
But in February 2018, the duo made their way back into each other’s lives and rekindled their love. They made their red carpet debut that September and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019.
Perry has also spoken candidly about the respect she has for Bloom amid their challenges, telling Vogue India in January 2020, “I have a partner who is also all about finding a balance — Orlando, who is on a spiritual journey of his own. He’s an anchor who holds me down, and he’s very real.”
That March, the “Teenage Dream” singer announced she was pregnant with the couple’s first child together, debuting her baby bump in her “Never Worn White” music video.
Perry and Bloom began planning a summer wedding in Japan at the time, but they postponed the ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August 2020, the pair announced that Perry gave birth to their daughter, Daisy Dove.
“We are floating with love and wonder from the safe and healthy arrival of our daughter,” they said in a statement to UNICEF at the time. “But we know we’re the lucky ones and not everyone can have a birthing experience as peaceful as ours was.”
Rumors swirled in March 2021 that Perry and Bloom had tied the knot, but she shut down the speculation in February 2022, saying COVID was still getting in the way of their plans.
The “Carnival Row” star was previously married to model Miranda Kerr from 2010 to 2013. They share a 12-year-old son, Flynn.
Perry, who maintains a close relationship with Kerr, called her fiancé “a great dad” to Flynn in May 2022.
The “Firework” singer was previously married to comedian Russell Brand from 2010 to 2012.
