Simon Cowell reveals why he backed out of his own talk show

It’s a “no” from him.

Simon Cowell revealed that the world very nearly saw him present his own talk show — but walked away from the gig at the eleventh hour.

Despite being one of the most notable on-screen talent show judges on the globe, the British music mogul said that when it came to presenting, he just “couldn’t do it.”

“I got to the point where they built the set and I started to get anxious and then really stressed out, and I just walked out the meeting,” Cowell, 63, told E! News.

“I just said I literally couldn’t do this. I just couldn’t talk to people all day long. I’m not very good at talking.”

While we won’t see the “X Factor” creator interview famous faces anytime soon, Cowell’s talent shows did open the door into the talk show arena for past contestants.

Singers Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, who both found fame after appearing on American Idol, have gone on to secure successful talk shows.

The “Since U Been Gone” hitmaker launched “The Kelly Clarkson Show” in 2019, and it’s been soaring in viewing figures ever since.

The talk show is produced and distributed by NBCUniversal Television Distribution, airs in 100% of the country on more than 200 stations, with the NBC O&Os as the core station group.

Meanwhile, EGOT winner Hudson launched “The Jennifer Hudson Show” in September 2022.

Despite his decision to steer clear from presenting his own talk show, Cowell remains on the judging panel on “AGT: All-Stars” alongside Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum. The judges have signed on for the new version of the hit NBC show.

The spin-off show features 10 former “America’s Got Talent” contestants who grace the stage once more for a chance to be crowned the “AGT: All-Stars” champion.
