Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber have been dogged by drama for years, having both been romantically involved with Justin Bieber.
Selena and Justin dated for almost a decade before breaking up in 2018. Just a few months later, the “Boyfriend” singer got engaged to Hailey, and the couple married shortly after.
Despite saying it’s “all love” between the two women on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in 2022 — and even posing with Selena at a gala that same year — people have never stopped pitting the two beauty moguls against each other.
And now, Hailey’s best friend Kylie Jenner has entered the chat.
In February 2023, the Kylie Cosmetics founder waded into the drama by posting a close-up eyebrow photo that some took as a jab against Selena. Below, everything you need to know about the problematic brow pics.
How did the drama start?
After Hailey and Selena seemingly put the feud rumors to rest with their public hug at the Academy Museum Gala in October 2022, the latter shared a video of her beauty look on TikTok in February 2023, saying, “I accidentally laminated my brows too much.”
Mere hours after Selena’s post, Kylie shared a photo of her own arches on her Instagram Stories, writing, “this was an accident ?????”
Who else is involved?
Hailey, of course. Kylie later shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call with her pal, showing off both women’s carefully groomed brows on camera.
Selena’s fans took this to be a dig at the “Only Murders in the Building” actress’ lamination mishap, calling Kylie and Hailey “mean girls” in their respective TikTok comments.
The pushback led to Hailey limiting comments on Instagram.
Kylie’s former friends soon began taking Selena’s side; her ex-pal Pia Mia shared a TikTok tutorial using the star’s Rare Beauty brand while her song “Calm Down” played in the background, while her former BFF Jordyn Woods similarly gave Rare Beauty a shout-out on Snapchat.
Is the eyebrow drama resolved?
It seems to be. After TikTok creator Nuha (@devotedly.yours) shared a viral video explaining the drama, Kylie herself left a comment.
“this is reaching. no shade towards selena ever and i didn’t see her eyebrow posts!” she wrote, adding, “u guys are making something out of nothing. this is silly.”
Selena joined in as well, commenting, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
The brouhaha led to Selena taking a social media hiatus.
“I’m gonna be taking a second from social media cause this is a little silly and I’m 30. I’m too old for this,” the superstar said in a live TikTok before making her exit.
Shortly before her online break, Selena reclaimed her title as Instagram’s most-followed woman – passing Kylie – with 383 million followers.
